Hi there,
I have been asked to look at a deceased musical collection as a record
collector.
It belonged to a man in Auckland named Newcombe. He was a respected
authority on brass and military music. It appears as though the collection
is a massive archive of brass and military music.
Not just vinyl and CD and DVD but extensive press clipping, programmes and
sheet music and other ephemera from around the globe panning many decades.
It is extensive, detailed and probably unique.
This is indeed a man’s life long passion and I’ve heard it is the best
collection of such materials in the South Pacific.
The family are looking to make some funds and I can look after that for them
as far as the recorded music goes. However this man’s archive needs to go to
a home where it can be preserved, respected and referenceable for
generations to come.
I’ve just completed my Granddad’s lifelong collection - and his legacy has
now been protected. His collection is now preserved through Sheffield
University.
I’m writing to you to see if you are interested in such a collection or can
contact your worldwide network to establish the best home for this material.
I will be urging the family to provide this at no cost as long as his
heritage can be protected in some way i.e. calling it the “Newcombe
Collection” and applying some resource to catalogue it.
Please let me know your thoughts - things are moving quite quickly so please
come back to me as soon as you can.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards, Jason
